  Mother's Day

Yesterday while out with my daugher I wished all women I came in contact with a Happy Mother's Day.  My daughter asked why I did that?  What if they are not Mother's you might make them feel bad.  I responded that even if they did not have their own children as a women I am sure they have Mothered a niece, nephew, friends child.  It is what we do as women "Mother".

Hope everyone was made to feel special on Mother's Day.

never to old for an easter egg hunt

Just when you think they are too old for an Easter egg hunt, think again.  Our family friend throws the best hunt ever.  Cash and lots of it.  Usually it is just our two families but this year we had another family join us.  Their kids (6) ages 8-21, my children (3) 17-21 and the hunt throwers children  (2) 18-23 were all in attendance.  In years past there was real dollar bills in the eggs but we learned from many eggs not being found that we lost too much cash so now she puts pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters in the eggs and each represents a dollar amount.  Penny = $1.00, Nickel = $2.00, Dime = $5.00 and Quarters = $10.00.  There are also two foil wrapped chocolates and those are the jackpot "golden egg"  worth $20.00.  There are 100 eggs placed all around her yard.  See now why all the excitement.

I laugh so hard at these grown children running around the yard much like they were still 6 years old  that my head hurt.  One parent said this was the most excercise his 21 year son has had in a long time, running for eggs.

My very proud moment was when my 6 foot 2 inch son leaped in between two of the girls grabbed an egg out of a decorative tree tucked and rolled to the ground.  He was so proud that he beat the " girls"  out for the egg grass stains and all on his brand new linen pants.

I smiled for the rest of the day thinking about how much fun and how much love we all shared on Easter.

  Random acts of kindness

Technology allows us the ability to not have to speak to someone directly if we find it uncomfortable.  We can text, email or Facebook.  I prefer to still hand write thank you notes and I will not communicate with my children in any of the manners I listed other then a quick text to say "get home", " where are you".  I prefer hearing their voices even for the smallest verbal interaction.  I understand that illness, divorce, children issues all can make people uncomfortable so here is where social media comes in handy.  Send a text, email, connect on Facebook or send a note to tell someone going through a tough time that you are thinking about them.  It takes but a minute to make the contact to let the struggling person or family know you have them in your thoughts.  One of my friends told me that her husband who went through cancer treatment has kept all the cards he had been sent.  That is how much it meant to him that people took the time to let him know they were thinking of him.  Think of someone who you know that could use a random act of kindness and make their day.

  Weight Watchers

They say it takes a village to raise a child.  Well let's talk about what it takes to be on a diet.  You can be so much more successful when your girlfriends are packing snack bags with the exact amount of pretzels, sharing carrots and dip, checking how many points a jenny-o turkey burger is and going to meetings and sharing their notes.  Jennifer Hudson watch out here comes the Faye's girls.

  New Years Day

Happy New Year to all.  I planned on being in my pjs all day yesterday but so much for that plan.  A customer was in town so I went into the store for 2 hours.  I tried to sneak out of the house before my daughter woke up but just as I was leaving down the stairs she came.  The first words out of her mouth were " I thought you were going to be in your pjs all day" second words were "I am hungry can't you feed me before you leave".  My reply... I will be back in 1 hour.  Big mistake on my part as it was 2 1/2 hours until I returned.  Made a really late brunch and played Mexican train dominos with her (really fun game if you have never played).  About an hour into the game she lets out a big sigh when I ask what was wrong my little cherub replied " you left me here for two hours when you said you would only  to be gone for 1".    Really....   Happy New Year

  Coworkers husbands

One of my co-workers husbands calls the other day and needs me to go buy his wife a bra from Allure for Christmas.  She said hers were too big.  So the fun began.  Over I go and pick a few out in the size I think she is.  I call him back and he would like me to describe each bra I picked, so my response was "really".  How about I send you a pic of them.  He almost stroked that I would send him an email of bras.  I said no text then you can delete them.  He decides on a lovely purple lacey number then would like to know if there are panties to match.  I pick out a matching pair and he would like me to describe them so I try my best..  Oh no he only wants thongs, that is all she wears.  Mind you I have know my co-worker for so many years we are like family but I did not know she only wore thongs.  Thong it is.  I have them wrapped and ask if he would like me to drop the gift off.  He decides he will drive by the store and pull up and I can run them out. So I do.  Of course I couldn't wait until this morning to find out how she liked her gift, when she replied " I hated them".  She said she was  the "B" word to him about the gift and just pushed it to the side.  She felt the slap from me through the phone.  I told her how cute he was and how he took so much time (and mine)  to pick the perfect gift.  I told her she needed to apologize to him.  When I got to work I asked her if she apologized to him for her ungrateful reaction and she did.  Then she marched across the hall to Allure and returned her lovely purple lacy bra and panties for pre-menopausal sweat absorbing jammies.  Better luck next year......

The next co-worker's husband calls and asks for me but tells his wife, who answered the phone, that his name is Fred.  I answer hello Fred only to find out is wasn't Fred.  He said he never thought that she would answer the phone so he made up a name.  She does work here so I am not sure why he thought she would not answer the phone....He needed a gift for her for Christmas and needs my help. I told "Fred" that we were out to dinner the other night with a customer and she loved the necklace she was wearing that was just purchased from our Kalibre trunk show. I told him I would get one over nighted for him as his gift.  Well so much for that as Kalibre was all out and could not make me another one until after the holiday.  Good thing I am quick on my feet.  I called our customer, who happens to be my very best friend.  I told her my dilemma and asked if she would give me back the necklace and wait for the new one to be made after the holiday.  She very happily obliged.  It's exhausting helping these husbands out and keeping it a secret from my peeps.

  Coming home from College

My very sweet son who is a junior in College in Connetiquet calls me 2-3 times a day.  I know I am very lucky and he always brings a smile to my face when I hear his voice.  However, last Friday after me asking him countless times when he wanted me to get his ticket home for Christmas he got a little attitude.  When I asked him why he sounded short with me he said I was annoying him by asking him so many times.  I told him every day he waits to find out when his last exam is the tickets get more and more expensive.  He continued with his nasty tone and said " fine don't get me a ticket I will stay in New York so find me someone to stay with.  Just so you know that wasn't a bold statement as all my family is in New York.

We went all weekend without speaking which is so unusual but I was not going to give in.  Last night around 8:00 pm the phone rang and it was my sweet son.  Happy and jovial.  I asked if he was over his fit and he said yes because he had a date for me.

I think he was a little final exam stressed.....

  What to get

I am a true believer that when you see something special for someone throughout the year you should purchase it and give it to them right then.  I cannot bring myself to purchase a gift just to say I got the gift.  It has to hit me and be special for that person.  Yesterday my very special friend dropped off a gift to me and I asked her why and she said because she wanted to get it for me.  Now should could have waited for Christmas or my Birthday but it really was so much more special to me that she wanted me to to have it  just because.  That's a wonderful gift from the heart.

  New York

Just back from New York buying Spring and we have been up to our ears writing orders.  Amy and I   spent all last week at my kitchen table writing orders.  Spring is bright, neon colors in everything.  I know it's hard to imagine Spring when we are only into the first week of Fall.  Think how confused we buyers are.  Off to LA in a few weeks to see what they have to offer.  LA never disappoints and the weather is the best.

  Kids back to school

I am sure like myself you all have been shopping for school cloths and supplies until you want to scream.  I was with my two boys on Friday, one is a Freshman at Whitewater the other a Junior at Fairfield University buying everything from underwear to towels.  As I meanderer over to look at a little something for myself my son blurted out this is not about you today just us.  I thought to myself as if this day is any different from any other day in our parental lives.  So after you have sent all your peeps off to school lunch boxes in hand come and lets work on some Fall cloths for the Momma.

Wishing all of our children a successful and happy school year.

  client jewelry

We pride our selves in having great client relationships.  I have made some of my dearest friends who began as clients.  One of the perks in making great friends from clients is you can borrow the wonderful things you sell to them.  We had a company wedding to go to on  Saturday night and I could not find the right jewels to wear with my dress.  Co-workers brought pcs in for me to try but nothing worked.  I had in my mind what I wanted for the dress but we did not have it at the store anymore.  I remembered that one of my clients had such great pcs she had to have something that would work.  So the desperate phone call was made.  Mary brought me several pcs from her collection and happiness was made.  She had the exact pc I needed.  Obviously her Mom taught her well.  It's nice to share....  Thanks Mary

  Friends that are Family

It is hard to have celebrations when all your family lives out of town.  Sunday was my son's graduation party from High School and we were surrounded by the best of friends who we all consider family.  It was so blasting hot I found myself in the dining room hovering over the vent in the floor to get some air up my dress.  I did not share this trick with my other guests as I did not want to share the vent.  It was a great celebrations and I am so thankful for our "Friends" and air conditioning of course.....  Stay cool wear a dress and keep an eye out for those floor vents.

  I am seeing DOTS

I have been seeing Dots and no I have not been drinking...   We have a ton of 3 Dots and Red Dots in for transition. 3/4 sleeve, v-neck, crew and a few novelty. For those of you who don't know what a 3 Dot is versus a Red Dot I will tell you.  3 Dot is a contemporary fitting tee as the Red Dot is for the missy customer who doesn't want her tee so fitted. That means a tee for all body types.  Come in an try them on, you will be happy to be seeing Dots (and wearing them).

Not just for the Patio "Dress"

The "Patio Dress" also know as the Maxi Dress was out in full form at the 4th of July celebration that my Children and I attended  last night.  I wore mine with a cropped short sleeve black sweater over it (arm issues).  My 16 year old daughter wore her zig zag print maxi  and just about every other young girl had on the most adorable age appropriate "Patio Dresses".  The little children were all dolled up in there red, white and blue ensambles and it made me long for the days when I could dress my three children in matching outfits.  Hope everyone enjoyed their holiday with family and friends.

  Bordeaux isn't just a wine...

It's a fabulous maxi skirt in model and spandex.  Higher in the front longer in the back.  Lagoon blue and black.  For those of you who are not familiar with Bordeaux they make great tops that have a lining under each pc kind of to hold things in place.  Very sliming and yes the skirt has the same lining.  A summer must have.
